Fantastic Four #600

Johnny Storm, the Human Torch wasn’t dead after all. Worms were busy rebuilding him in the Negative Zone. He’s ready to come back to the regular universe, but this time he has the help of a bunch of rejected Inhumans .Is Annihilus’ reign of terror in the Negative Zone going to last longer, now that Johnny is back?

So I paid $8 for a comic book featuring the most idiotic Marvel Comics villain ever, Annihilus. Hickman has not managed to make him credible, no matter how much he tried. Just the fact that worms and other bugs were used to rebuild the fallen Johnny Storm reminded me of how lame the character really is. Having not followed the Fantastic Four for a few years, I had no clue about what was happening with the other subplots which somehow all tie into Johnny’s return. I don’t know if I liked or hated what I read. I just read it and wasn’t moved or disgusted. It’s a comic book. One thing I will say is that as an anniversary issue, it misses the point. It felt more like an annual than a special issue about what the Fantastic Four mean to the world of comics.

With an anthology format, it’s easy to have bad art. There were no real weak chapters visually. It all looked nice although the styles were very different. Di Giandomenico was my favourite artist. His piece on Johnny Storm was crisp and lively.

Rating: 6.5 /10
