Batman has formed a temporary alliance with Two-Face, aimed at taking down the once-powerful terrorist cult known as Kobra. They’ve suffered losses in recent years, and are no longer as powerful as they once were. But they’re on the come back trail and eager to do some damage in Gotham. Really? Have they learned nothing from the League of Assassins, H.I.V.E., or Brother Blood? Gotham has no small experience dealing with crazed cults bent on death and destruction. Why not try Central City? Or Smallville?

Commissioner Gordon is along for the ride, but as commissioner, you’d think he could have scrounged up a few SWAT team people to assist, but they are conspicuously absent. Perhaps they’re on perimeter duty, I don’t know.

The story opens with Kobra going about its business of sowing the seeds of mayhem, while Batman delivers exposition in a voice over format. Not overly exciting, and a bit clichéd, but I’m not sure how else Robinson and Di Giandomenico could have achieved it without going well over their allotted page count.

Still loving Di Giandomenico’s artwork and its animé feel. It’s intricately detailed, but not so much so that the colors overshadow and obscure. It’s beautiful work, a lovely pairing between Di Giandomenico and Ivan Plascensia.

Next issue teases the death of Harvey Dent? Could it truly be? Unlikely. Nobody ever truly stays dead in comics. Perhaps Two-Face’s personality comes to the fore, completely subverting former DA Dent. So forgive the spoiler without an alert. It’s not likely to happen.

Rating: 8/10
