Deathstroke #9

Jericho plays super hero but also develops a bad headache. Slade Wilson, now captive meets a man from his past who reminds him of why he is called Deathstroke.

This is one of those issues where Christopher Priest is setting up stuff so a lot of short scenes intersect with one another and it’s difficult to get a sense of where he is going with the story. I’m used to this aspect of Priest writing now and although it annoys me, I know that there is little to do now. The next issue may be the same and the payoff to all of the scaffolding he is doing may only be revealed much later.

Cary Nord’s style is a complete switch from what we’ve seen previously in this series. The problem is not that Nord is a bad artist. He is an old pro. The problem is that the does not match what we’ve seen before and creates a storytelling break that is worsened with the complicated story. Editors should really be more careful when picking replacement artists for a few issues.
