Matt Murdock and his associates continue to defend the former villain known as the Gladiator against all odds and when reason says he should be locked away forever. After some legalese manoeuvres, the Gladiator gets a break, only to use it to escape and murder people again. This time, Daredevil has to race against time to find the villain and find out what makes him go on crazy murdering rampages constantly.
This issue was not filled with action but it had its quota of court room drama. One of the interesting subplots is how Milla, Matt Murdock’s wife fits in this. Her subplot, where she reflects on her life with Murdock is interesting and makes her a strong character. It seems that all will head to a big final reveal around issue #100. Here we see another side of Matt Murdock, the arrogant self-serving lawyer who will use any dirty legal trick to get his way. I don’t like that about him, but I enjoy the fact that this also part of the character. He’s a layer after all. We’re not supposed to like him.
Lark and Gaudino continue to deliver gorgeous realistic shots that fit the current crime orientation of the series. Although not as spectacular as previous Daredevil artists, their work focuses on the story and telling it well. As such, it’s a perfect complement to Brubaker’s scripts.
