DC Comics New 52uesday Review Roundup, August 28th 2012

Green Lantern #12
"The readers get thrown right into the action with the Guardians, the
rising Third Army, the mysterious Book of Black and Black Hand and his
zombies. It is enthralling for longtime fans, especially those who
have been following
Green Lantern for years. This book actually still
references the events of
Blackest Night and
Brightest Day even though
the rest of the new DC universe has seemingly forgotten these events."

Before Watchmen: Dr. Manhattan #1
"Aside from the interesting ending, which sets up the rest of the series nicely, the only other thing interesting about
Before Watchmen: Dr. Manhattan
is its odd cover. Silk Spectre doesn't figure much into the story here
in issue #1 so what's she doing on the cover? More importantly, what's
up with Manhattan's positioning behind her and his grasp on her? It's
almost like an inside joke that's not as subtle as it at first might
seem. I'm sure that I'm not the only one that thinks this cover is
odd...and slightly offensive in its suggestiveness, especially knowing
the usual state of Manhattan's dress. Maybe that's what Silk Spectre
standing in front of him is mean to hide... "

Superman #12
"The best thing about Dan Jurgens' return to the pages of Superman wasn't
that it was short, but that it was a great nostalgic trip back to the
glory days of the Superman stories of the early to mid 1990s when the
likes of Jurgens and Tom Grummett were drawing the books. The worst
thing about Dan Jurgens' return to the pages of Superman was that it was
a nostalgic trip back to the glory days of the Superman storytelling
that now feels dated."
