The story will serve as a spiritual successor to Batman: Year One by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli. In an interview with IGN Snyder revealed a few more details about the story. The writer explained that the story takes place six years before the current DC timeline. Snyder then discussed how while many writers have explored the origin of Batman, that he and artist Greg Capullo found an aspect that has never been examined before in the history of the Dark Knight. In other interviews Snyder talked about how the Batman villain known as the Riddler was going to appear in the new Batman storyline. When asked about the Riddler, Scott Snyder was very coy and said “I don’t want to give it away.” At the end of interview Snyder was asked if the other Batman books would tie into Batman: Zero Year, the writer explained how this storyline was going to be contained only in the core Batman title.
