Constantine #15
By Hervé St-Louis
June 15, 2014 - 20:13
Constantine is in Hong Kong interviewing that city’s mistress of luck. She has swallowed all the luck in the city for herself. Constantine wants to know the name of who taught him his first magic trick. He needs the answer to deal with the Cold Flame Cult. But the Hong Kong mage is waiting for him and has stacked the cards to steal his luck. Will he escape from her palace or will luck run out?
I recognize some of the cockiness that characterized john Constantine in early
Hellblazer issues. I admit that I haven’t read this series since the 52 reboot. I was afraid of the super hero elements in the comic book. The difference between this and the older Hellblazer series is the lack of blood and gore in every page. Constantine’s charm is the same. This comic book is a good introduction to the upcoming television series in the fall of 2014.
The artwork was jarring. There were too many lines and magic energy blasts to follow the action. If this is what the creators intended then good job. But it’s not the kind of comic book that I want to read a second time. It was too busy. The illustrator is good but he buries his own work with unnecessary details.
