Captain America #48

It’s an old timer’s game as Captain America, Namor The Submariner and the Black Widow fight Professor Zhang Chin, who has transformed the remains of the first Human Torch into a vial capable of transmitting a virus that can kill. He wants to reduce the population of the planet to give it more breathing room. Will the heroes defeat him before the Human Torch is launched into the world?
The last part of a three issue story, it’s continues to be a suspense thriller with super heroes. The story itself has nothing particular, when looking at it. It’s a good old captured super hero freeing himself and his allies and fighting the good fight. Yet this story is still a good read. What I’m really hoping is that it will set up the return of the Human Torch in time for Captain America #50. It would be interesting to see if Namor pulls out a mean trick to hurt his old buddies from the Invaders.
There is nothing that I can say about the artwork in this series except for marvelling at the quality and consistency readers are treated to. Even when there is a replacement artist, like Butch Guice, the work is so similar to Epting’s that it’s only noticeable when reading the credits. Kudos to the art director who works behind the scenes and never get any credits for his work.
