In the second part of this mini-series, which ties in to the whole "Blackest Night" event, Superman and Superboy (Connor) are battling zombie versions of the Earth-2 Superman and Lois Lane in Smallville while Supergirl finds her deceased father coming back to life to haunt her.

The fight between Superman and his undead counterpart is pretty much what one would expect with the two trading powerful blows. What adds a frightening touch to the story is the arrival of the deceased villain, Psycho-Pirate who turns the good people of Smallville into raving lunatics.

While the story isn't quite the chilling horror story it aspires to be, it is still an engaging tale with both Superman and Superboy pushed to their limits in order to protect their loved ones. New things keep on happening, complicating the heroes' plight and making this more than just a slugfest with a zombie.

Meanwhile, on New Krypton, Supergirl must deal with a zombie version of her deceased father in a scene that for once, showcases the emotional turmoil caused by the rise of the Black Lanterns. Too often, the DC heroes take the revival of their old friends in stride-- showing their professionalism perhaps, but also taking some of the emotional punch from the story. While the Supergirl sequence is a nice dramatic scene, it also breaks the pace of the story in Smallville, interrupting the flow of the narrative \somewhat.

The art is detailed and powerful looking, making the emotions of all the characters, including the zombies, come through very well.

Rating: 7.5 /10
