Batgirl and the Birds of prey #8
By Paul Mason
March 8, 2017 - 11:03
This issue starts a new story arc for the Birds of Prey
BLACKBIRD part one BLACKBIRD Sings
There is a visitor to the Birds of Prey stomping grounds in this issue, Nightwing.
The Birds assist Nightwing against a metahuman and find out about a mysterious person training and enhancing metahuman who is only known as BLACKBIRD. Throughout this issue the heroes discover BLACKBIRD is recruiting metas through a fight club.
This opening chapter in the story arc is strongly written. It has some good characterization, including a humorous interaction between Nightwing, huntress, and Batgirl. It seems like DC rebirth while keeping some of the new 52 and pre flashpoint continuity has really urged it's creators to focus on the root characteristics of the heroes. Although as alluded to there is some history between all the characters in this issue the Bensons have done an admirable job telling a clean story. This opening chapter is also drawn with vibrant strokes making it a pleasure to read and contains enough intrigue to make on continue the storyline without alienating new readers that may make this issue a jumping on point to start reading this comic.
Overall I would give this a solid 3.75 rating out of 5.
