Spoiler for Arrow episode 3 below!
Arrow picked up the pace ever so slightly this week in it's third episode Lone Gunmen. This episode had a few fun things going for it but the most exciting thing was Deadshot.
The Lone Gunmen opens with Oliver Queen monologuing about the island. The narration is still slightly cheesy but is getting better each week. Oliver displays his physical prowess by bringing down a cinder block with only his physical strength. He immediately gets whisked away back to a flashback on the island and we are treated to more insight into what Oliver was actually doing there.
After running into the woods Oliver is caught into a trap by a man who tells him he will not make it on the island alone. The man who nurses Ollie back to health could be Deathstroke, but if so is Deathstroke now Asian? Speaking of rogues our first flash of Deadshot is found. Although Deadshot was underdeveloped this episode he was an entertaining villain. The modernized take on the Deathstroke costume was also interesting.
Another development for Oliver Queen is the idea of him opening up a nightclub. This revelation is very creative as Oliver could keep an eye on the nightlife without seeming suspicious. Oliver also mentioned he could keep his armory down below without seeming too obvious.
After Oliver is done inquiring about his future nightclub he takes a visit to Max Fuller's nightclub. Oliver has poor luck as illustrated by the fact that every time he goes to a nightclub his sister is always seems to strung out on cocaine. After reprimanding his sister Ollie leaves abruptly to Big Belly Burgers a very funny shout to DC dining continuity.
While the conspiracy thin plot is very thin it's the small moments that make the episode shine through the two that came before it. Fingers crossed that Oliver finally got through to his sister Thea this week. Earlier in the episode I took note of how lonely Oliver must feel. He has shared his secret with nobody which is why the cliffhanger this week was so refreshing. If anybody had to find out about Oliver's secret the bodyguard is the best choice.
The fight with Deadshot was another highlight of the episode. It was quite a knockdown intense fight. The choreography was also surprisingly adept. When Deadshot was first shown with the eye it was hard not to let out a cheer. Arrow was on the upswing this week.
