Archer and Armstrong #8
By Hervé St-Louis
March 12, 2013 - 22:02
Archer is possessed by a spirit working for the null so that he may kill Armstrong, the Eternal Warrior and the new Geomancer. Elsewhere, Archer’s ex girlfriend Mary-Maria infiltrates Wall Street where she promises to help the One Percent recruit new followers to their cause. Which Archer will kill the most people this issue?
This series has an irreverent feel where silly things are discussed and said as a matter of fact and very casually. When one of the characters is possessed by a powerful force, his transformation is almost funny and dramatic at the same time. The pace is fast, although it’s easy to understand where the story is going, granted the transition from the last issue left confused as I don’t really recall the ending.
Van Lente continues to dabble with information theory in his story. This issue he equates the human brain with a computer. While it’s a popular conception of the brain, it’s actually more complicated than that. The human brain is not at all like a computer in the sense that computers that exist today can only compute one operation at a time. Human brains can compute several types of information simultaneously.
Archer does some serious damage to his friends this issue as he’s being possessed. I wonder how they will feel about what he has done to them, if they survive his attack while he is being possess by another force.
Lupacchino is a good artist, although I don’t really like how she draws Archer. There’s something missing. He seems too generic and not iconic enough. Everything else is fine this issue.
