The US’s Aqua Marines infiltrate Atlantis and kill several high member of Aquaman’s high council. But next on their list is the king of Atlantis himself and Aquaman may not be able to defeat them. Will he survive his encounter with the Aqua Marines? This review contains spoilers so don’t read further if you do not want to know more.
First pet peeve. Marines and Navy Seals are not the same. In this one and previous issues, the military group that the Aqua Marines originate from has been muddied. Are they seals or marines? Next, I know that Aquaman has to face credible opponents but he seems to have been very weak next to the Aqua Marines.
Having written all of my complaints, I liked how Aquaman stayed true to his word and was noble and a hero even when he could have had the Aqua Marines killed. I also liked how he took responsibility for his decisions to not escalate the war against the United States and instead brought the fight to Black Manta instead. If that fight is not one for the ages, none will ever be!
I haven’t been a fan of Philippe Briones’s Aquaman all the time. I think my problem is the inking. It lacks polish. And this is a shame because he draws very good figures. Still his work is solid and does not really jump out when compared to Scot Eaton’s. Each handle Aquaman well. But when will Brad Walker be back?
