Angry Birds Comics #1

Rovio’s popular video game property is now a comic book with the help of IDW Publishing. Three short stories grace the first issue and a powerful framing strip in each page. In the first story, Bomb bird has a nasty hiccup making him explode each time. In the second story, the pigs attempt to create a new bird-proof bunker. In the final story, the pigs have thought of a devious way to break the unity of the birds.
Each story has a different creative team. Yet, the look and feel is uniform and like the mobile video game. The stories are of course for kids. They are simple and provide a little bit of background into the Angry Birds world. But don’t expect secret revelations that will become cannon in the video game. It’s meant to entertain without any attempt at continuity.
I like the artwork. The colours are vivid and bright. The best part about the entire comic book was the slingshot frame at the bottom of each page mimicking the red bird attacking the pigs. I enjoyed this comic book and would recommend it to kids. Yet, I wonder how the creators will create enough stories for a continuing series.
