The first thing a seasoned reader will notice when cracking the pages of All New X-Men issue two is the pencils of Stuart Immonen. The pencils are so incredibly clean and give an issue of talking heads tense dynamic energy. Also it is incredible how detailed and sharp they are. For a book shipping  twice a month this is no small feat. Stuart Immonen, Wade Von Grawbadger, Marte Gracia, and VC’s Cory Petit should be treasured if they are able to keep this awesome quality of art intact. The Bendis script is no slouch either seeing the sixties X-Men return to the present is very powerful. On the other hand this is an issue that you get what you put into, if you are not attached to the X-Men this issue may not grab you.

Fans of X-Men will love this comic. It is refreshing to see the classic X-Men as being more reluctant toward the present ones. Although Beast seems like he is too important of a character to just die of a heart disease randomly. If comic book death was permanent it would be a powerful upcoming moment in the story. However in the revolving door of death that is modern comic books Beast’s impending death won’t mean that much to anyone. Contrasting Beast’s inevitable death is the death of Charles Xavier that only has meaning because Cyclops was the one who murdered him. The death of Professor X also still plays a major role in the story. The cover to the next issue gives the comic one hell of a cliffhanger. Nobody can possibly guess what or how present Cyclops will react to classic Cyclops.

The content of the comic while wordy is still fantastic. The classic X-Men are very naive and scared. The notion of innocence being swept away into the future is great. Examining the ramifications on Wolverine and seeing him being put to sleep like commonplace dog is a shining moment in the script. The two Icemen also have a scene stealing moment when they look into each others eyes. The classic X-Men also think that Utopia is heaven itself. Then they steal a Quinjet and are whisked away into another adventure. With the impending doom that is present day Cyclops next issue and the fun to be had in this issue as well this series is highly recommended.
