Alex Kingston to Join the Cast of Arrow

EW.com reports that actress Alex Kingston will join the cast of Arrow in a recurring guest role. She will play Dinah Lance, the mother of Laurel (Katie Cassidy) and the ex-wife of Det. Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne).

Kingston, who also starred on ER from 1997-2009, will join fellow Dr. Who alum John Barrowman, who portrays businessman Malcolm Merlyn. Barrowman portrayed Capt. Jack Harkness on Dr. Who and its spinoff Torchwood.

Kingston’s character is another nod to the overall larger DC Universe. Dinah Drake Lance was the alter ego of the Golden Age Black Canary, who married a Gotham City police detective named Larry Lance, while Dinah Laurel Lance was her daughter, the modern-era Black Canary.

Arrow airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
