SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
We here at the Bin have been anticipating the conclusion to the Superman Reborn storyline, which has been running alternately in the pages of Superman and Action Comics. The four-part story concludes this week in Action #976 with the merging of the New 52 Superman and the Pre-Flashpoint version.
I think it’s about time, but largely for personal reasons. The blue boots on Superman’s uniform really bothered me, and I’m please to see his new suit being more akin to that of Henry Cavill’s movie costume. Not that I’m a huge fan of the current Superman movie franchise, but I think the red boots just lend a better contrast.
As I said in another review, it appears the Rebirth event is moving closer to its eventual conclusion. Regarding Action Comics, I’ve grown a little weary of the constant subterfuge on the part of the Kent family to blend in in their new world.
Granted, it’s not so terribly different from what they’ve known before, and now that the mystery of the “other” Clark Kent has been addressed, hopefully things can settle into a more comfortable groove.
What can I say, I’m a traditionalist, and I miss the days when Clark dodged into a store room, peeled open his shirt, and said, “This looks like a job for Superman!” Sure, it’s corny, but I would welcome it amidst all the doom & gloom of the more recent DC Universe. I miss the innocence and the optimism. I’ll admit it’s not very realistic, but if I wanted realism, I wouldn’t be reading comic books in the first place.
