The Gotham Girls was a series produced by World Leader Entertainment - then known as Noodle Soup Production, as New York-based animation studio, for Warner Brothers. Based on the popular Batman animated series from the early 1990s, the series featured villainess Harley Quinn, Catwoman, Poison Ivy versus heroine Batgirl, Zatanna and Detective Montoya.
Three seasons of this series exist. The first two were short had short stories with comedic endings and were available for downloading as Flash movies from the specially branded Gotham Girls’s Website. The third season was a tie-in series linked to the Mr Freeze Sub Zero direct to video film. The downloads were no longer in Flash.
The actresses who voiced the Gotham Girls cartoons were also the same that voiced the various Batman animated series and films, based on the same continuity. The animation for the series was good, albeit using limited technique. The series, appearing between 2000 and 2003 was popular with audience and inspired DC Comics to publish a series based on the characters and their appearance in the cartoon series.
Today, it is very difficult to find the original cartoons on Warner Brothers’ Web site. The small portal developed at the time, Gothamgirls.com leads only to the studio’s site map. Although the series seems to have been shelved, its fate is similar to other series developed as Flash cartoons at the time for Warner Brothers, such as Timber Wolf and Zatanna. It is not known what Warner Brothers’ plans are for the Gotham Girls.
