Former detective Renée Montoya continues her investigation which brings her in the arms and fists of former secret lesbian lover, rich heiress Kathy Kane, from Gotham City. Also, there is finally some closure in Booster Gold merry go round with promotional super heroics as he is exposed by old friends and colleagues as a sham. In other news, time is running out for Starfire, Adam Strange and Animal Man as nightfall is upon them and the secret creature protecting its idyllic planet will soon be free.
Finally something happens with the Renée Montoya story. The problem is DC Comic’s hyper hype machine blew any mystery in the Kate Kane character. We all know she will become Batwoman. We just don’t know how or why. DC Comics has decided that 52 would be the launching pad for any new character that it introduces. I didn’t like the line about the Kanes owning the other half the Waynes don’t in Gotham City. We never heard of the Kanes in years and now we are to believe they were always there and a good match for Bruce Wayne?
The addiction subplot with Animal Man, Starfire and Adam Strange lacked exposure. It seems like the writers skipped a beat when talking about this story. In fact, it seems like the writers skipped a lot of beats this week as story elements barely introduced earlier appear as if they had received sufficient build up. For example, the introduction of Kate Kane is too quick.
If every few week, readers are gonna be subjected to bad art, because of tight deadlines, than this does not bode well for this series. The inker and the penciller’s style don’t match at all. Lashley’s work is in line with Jim Lee while Draxhall inks are fuller and darker. It felt like reading a bad Jim Lee clone. The editors should pay more attention and with whom they match when handing assignments.
