It’s Steel versus Super Luthor at Lex Luthor’s corporate headquarter. Informed of that his nephew is held by Luthor after being discovered spying on him, Steel mounts his final assault against the man who once gave him powers, but then took it away from him. But Luthor has the powers of Superman now and nothing could possibly stop him, save for Superman alone. The outlook is bad for Steel. Can he make it alive?
There have been few no hold traditional super hero fights in this series. This is a rejoicing break from the usual subplot treatment readers have been fed. Although according to Steel and the Teen Titans assisting him, the fight is right, it will be interesting to see how they convince the media about this now that Luthor is again everybody’s favourite mogul. Although this issue has a few payback against some of Luthor’s henchmen, it felt forced. Although there have been 40 issues of this series thus far, it is still hard to relate to much of the characters.
Marvel and DC Comics really differ. When you look at a Marvel comic book with a no holds’ fight, things are messy. Here Batista drew a clean fight, although much of it occurred under rain. Looking at this issue without a Marvel comic book next to it, the fight looks spectacular. But comparing it with say, New Avengers #27, it feels dry. Nevertheless, the storytelling here is solid and it’s far easier to understand what was going on in this issue, than it was in the other title mentioned above.
