52 # 19
An all-mystery issue as Skeets lures Booster Gold's ancestor to a secret hideout, only to reveal something that no one was expecting. Meanwhile Lobo tells the space-lost trio of Starfire, Adam Strange and Animal Man, the real reason the universe is in disarray. Well, he reveals some of it anyway. Perhaps DC feels they can leave the readers hanging for a little longer, seeing as how this is a weekly series. This issue has a more makeshift look about it than the previous issues. There is no single storyline that is the focus of the story. Instead, there are a host of sub-plots which seem to be going in different directions. The art, while adequate, also lacks a focus, almost as if it was thrown together to meet a deadline. Perhaps this is just a sign that this is a mere "transition" issue which did not get as much attention and is intended merely to set the stage for bigger things. The book does succeed in this at least. But it still leaves the feeling that DC is prolonging this story just to fill up all the promised 52 issues. Thankfully, it is a weekly. I doubt the readers' patience would be sustained if it were a monthly.
